Ewan McGregor Is Game For An Obi-Wan Spinoff

More than a decade has passed since Ewan McGregor’s last Star Wars appearance, but the hype surrounding The Force Awakens has given him reason to answer new questions about the beloved franchise. Speaking to Indiewire at the Edinburgh Film Festival, he admitted that he’s feeling optimistic about December’s seventh entry. “I’m excited about it as much as anyone else,” he said when asked about J.J. AbramsStar Wars revival. “I saw the trailer and it looks like he absolutely nailed it and it feels right.”

However, as a seasoned Jedi, McGregor is not without criticism. Having wielded many a lightsaber in his day, he isn’t quite willing to get behind the crossguard lightsaber glimpsed in the teaser. “I’m not sure about the [crossguard] lightsaber. If you fight with a lightsaber properly, you don’t need one.”

Asked if he thinks there might be a way for him to return to the franchise in an Obi-Wan Kenobi prequel/spinoff, McGregor expressed playful enthusiasm. “I’ll say it publicly, here, now. I’d be happy to do the story between Episode 3—that I finished in—and Episode 4 that Alec Guinness started in. I think that would be good. Disney should definitely do that.”
